When you first sign up for using Facebook, you are assigned with a random unique username. The random username is based on your first and last name. Some of us might get an acceptable Facebook username on their public profile, while others might end up with unacceptable Facebook usernames. People who don’t like their Facebook public profile username are usually not aware that it’s possible to change their Facebook public profile username. To change the public profile username, Facebook requests you to verify your mobile phone number through a phone call or SMS. This option is available in Facebook for most of the countries. However, there are a few countries that have this option disabled.
We will focus first on how you can change your Facebook public profile username and later we’ll show you how you can also change your Facebook username. Your Facebook public profile username can be changed as many times you like. However, make sure to not change it too often because you might activate the Facebook account security check. It is best to keep your changes at a maximum of three Facebook public profile username changes per year.
To change your Facebook public profile username, first log in your account on Facebook. Click on the drop down arrow at top right, just near the home button, and then click on the account settings. Under the username label you have to click on the edit option. In case that you did not verified your mobile phone number yet, you will be asked to get through those steps first. You can click on verify mobile number and select your country, fill in your phone number and click on send. The verification code will come on a SMS message to your mobile phone. You need to enter that verification code on Facebook and click on verify. The final step is to enter a new Facebook public profile username and click on check availability tab, to find out if your chosen name is available. Once you are happy with your new username you need to insert your Facebook password and click on “save change”.
In case that you wish to change your username, we’ll also give you an easy way to change your username on Facebook. The Facebook’s terms and conditions stipulate that you are not allowed to change your Facebook username after setting your account. Our simple instructions will show you a way to do that. In order to be able to change your Facebook username, you need to have your Facebook account temporary de-activated. You will not lose your profile info or any other data and you can re-activate your account on your next log in.
After logging in your Facebook account, first step is to go to your account settings by clicking on the drop down arrow near your home button. Then click on “security” and choose the option “deactivate your account”. Choose the explanation that “it’s temporary”. Log in again into your Facebook account by using your email and password. When you log in again your account is re-activated. Go to your account settings and choose “edit username”. You can now choose a new Facebook username for your account.
